Mon dieu! A Frenchman making a pudding out of Krispy Kreme donuts. Mais oui, at French 27, a welcome new addition to French restaurants in Miami. It tastes a little like bread pudding, but has a bit of a crunch on top and is not so sweet as the glazed donuts. Just right in my book. Then it’s topped with housemade vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup.
Chef Andreas Trilik, creator of the dessert, had a Krispy Kreme when he first came to America and thought it was the best thing ever. Price: $15.
Also worthy of Fabulous Friday status is their Champagne en Rose cocktail, a riff on a Kir Royale but so much better.
It’s tough to be a standout in this age of high power mixologists, but this is one both in taste and presentation. The cocktail is made of Veuve Clicquot Rose, French Rose wine, and maraschino. It’s served on a small silver platter with a champagne glass on one side and a real perfume bottle on the other. Then red rose petals are strewn on the platter. Elegant, sexy, delicious. The only suggestion I have is as an option they sell it with a Baccarat or Lalique perfume bottle to take home for a birthday or Valentine’s Day. Price: $23.
