You’ve all probably read by now about the world record set with the sale of the Francis Bacon triptych of his good friend and fellow prominent British artist Lucien Freud – for over $142 million at auction. Here’s a chance to have distinctive works of art for five figures less ($1600 and up), with a unique program underwritten by the Knight Foundation with matching grants. Merging the visual and performing arts, in 2012 the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts launched the Knight Masterworks Print Collection, a program that commissions limited-edition prints to create a permanent art collection at the Center and to make limited editions available for purchase to the public. The artists commissioned seek inspiration from the Arsht Center’s diverse programming and Miami’s cultural arts landscape. All pieces are displayed publicly at the Center. Editions feature artists including Hernan Bas and Donald Sultan.
In addition, the Arsht and New York’s Lincoln Center continue their collaboration with the Lincoln Center List Art Collection, currently displaying more than 30 art works throughout the halls and lobbies of the Arsht Center. These pieces represent work created by other renowned artists, including Chuck Close, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler and many more.
Purchase of any of these limited–edition artworks helps the performing arts centers acquire art for public display. To view the works, indicate an interest to purchase specific ones, and read a brochure on The Arsht’s art initiatives, click here.
