Locust Projects, Miami’s longest running alternative space, has launched an exciting new three part program of talks about contemporary art from leading art professionals. Called Locust Salon Scholars, it kicks off March 11. And in other news, Locust Projects is having what sounds like a great fun and not-your-usual-people-watching event, a retro-inspired gala entitled ” Spring Fling in the Magic City”. On April 11, it will be held in the Herzog deMeuron parking lot and include everything from “comfort food” stations and an art auction to a fashion show and DJ playing Sinatra and “50’s dance music.
First up on the schedule of the Salon Scholars is a talk entitled “Why Are There No Great Women Artists” by Dr. Carol Damian, Professor of Art History, Department of Art & Art History, Florida International University followed by two others in April and May. The series of three is $200 and includes lunch.
About Locust Projects: Its mission is to encourage artists and audiences to consider new ways of seeing. This is done by producing new, site-specific work by outstanding emerging and mid-career artists. Concurrently, local community is offered out-of the-box educational workshops, lectures and programming. It recently moved to newly expanded space in the Design District, 3852 North Miami Ave.
This new Salon Scholars program was founded by Debra Frank, Jacqueline Green and Debra Scholl.
