Dr. Ruth Westheimer herself will be at the Thursday night performance (November 30) of “Becoming Dr. Ruth”, now at Gablestage at The Biltmore Hotel. The play is a fascinating look at the several lives, loves, challenges and successes of the famous Dr. Ruth Westheimer who broke ground with her warm, candid and outspoken advice about sex and relationships starting in the 80’s. The German-born, Jewish immigrant to the US became famous as a sex therapist, media personality, actress and author. She is the author of close to 40 books on different topics about sex and sexuality.
It’s an endearing drama, an inspiring tale of perseverance, courage and intellect, laced with humor and snippets of conversations from patients about their sex life. The play is a monologue by a very talented actress, Ann O’Sullivan, who garnered a standing ovation on opening night. The first play of the new season, it’s here until December 24.
If you’re a supporter and/or subscriber of Gable Stage, go to voice your support for their new 300 seat theater in Coconut Grove, to thwart efforts to build a much larger 700 seat venue which would lose the intimacy of the smaller venue. There’s a Town Hall Meeting at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive this Thursday at 5 p.m. You can see images of the handsome new theater that artfully blends in with its surroundings in the Grove on display at Gablestage outside the box office.
