We’re very fortunate in Miami to have a terrific selection of workshops, lectures, and classes to explore our passions in everything from food and literature to computers, crafts, gardening and many more. I’ve taken classes in making petit fours, Ikebana, floral arranging, and painting in Acrylics and there’s a long “to do” list of others on my list. Besides our major art museums, the places with quality classes and a wide choice are Fairchild Tropical Gardens and the Osher Learning Institute of the University of Miami(next session starts Nov.4). Plus, prices are reasonable, so it’s no great investment to give them a try. The latest offering to cross my desk, and one worth giving special attention to is a Botanical Art Workshop at The Kampong Jan. 20-24. In this five day course with botanical artist Sarah Roche you’ll draw easy field sketches on the grounds of The Kampong and explore the rudiments of form working in graphite studies. The course is for all ages. The fee includes clsss instruction and two half day visits to local botanic gardens. The price for Kampong Fellows and members is $495; for non members, $595. Call 305-442-7169 for more information. And speaking of Fairchild Gardens, now that the weather is getting cooler, you may want to put tea at the garden on your list again (it starts again in January).
