UPDATE Miami Spice 2016: Sept Menus

Some of our picks for Miami Spice 2016 have changed their menus for September which we highlight below. Enticing new dishes range from cheese souffle and Alaskan king crab lasagna to roasted duck with fennel and peaches to crispy fried leche flan with pomegranate caramel. The prices are the same — three-course prix-fixe lunches ($23) and dinners ($39). We’ve also added Le Palme d’Or which we had a chance to experience and give it a big thumbs up. In the meantime in case you missed our original lists with menus that remain the same, Parts 1 and 2, click here and here.). Bon appetit!

Jaya: Miami Spice

Over the years The Setai’s highly professional service and well attired staff have never faltered. And we know that maintaining consistent service in Miami is anything but easy. The design of their spacious, comfortable restaurant Jaya with large well spaced tables and handsome open kitchen is still as appealing as ever. And then there’s the cuisine under the talented Executive Chef Mathias Gervais, showcasing all matter of Asian dishes – from Indian, overseen by their Indian Executive Sous Chef, Vijay Veena, to Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. If you haven’t been there, or have been wanting to return, Miami Spice is the time.

Sushi Garage: Miami Spice

For Miami Spice, I thought I’d try a newcomer to the scene. Being the sister restaurant to South Beach’s Juvia was enough of a pedigree for me to want to give Sushi Garage a try, and what better time than Miami Spice. More casual than its Lincoln Road relative, what the two have in common is very attractive design that makes use of natural elements – fresh plants as décor, light natural woods, simple lines, with an airy garden feel. It’s also very much a neighborhood place, attracting all ages and lots of families for a midweek dinner. With its long bar that stretches almost the length of the restaurant and the comfortable vibe, it’s a place I could see myself going to for a dinner alone as well. And stay tuned at the end for a quick look at my Spice menu picks.

Miami Spice 2016: Bourbon Steak+Corsair

In this, Part 3 of my Miami Spice coverage, I’m focusing on Spice menus I’ve tried and the dishes at each that I recommend. Why these in particular? Different reasons — in the case of Bourbon Steak and Corsair their Spice menus are always reliably excellent. Jaya in the Setai Hotel offers fine Asian cuisine that’s tough to find around town, very professional service, and moderate noise level for relaxed conversation. Then there’s newcomer Sushi Garage, the sister restaurant of Juvia, which I’ve been wanting to try and this was a good opportunity. For the next 3 days you’ll read about each of them. Day 1 – Bourbon Steak and Corsair.
