Davids Tea in Brickell City Centre is a tea store that even non tea drinkers will enjoy. A walk around and you’ll end up wanting to meet the incredibly creative mind behind the tea themed products you’d never imagine. And if you’re a tea lover, you’ll be loving it. Great inexpensive gifts too.
The Montreal-headquartered Davids Tea is everything you can dream of that could have tea and then some – from milk and dark chocolate bars and shortbread cookies, to lip butter and body cream. Tired of the same old, same old tea? Here find 150 varieties, some which change with the seasons. For instance, in January they’re debuting the “feel good” collection including turmeric, mate and goji berries. Big sellers include herbal varieties like Forever Nuts (apple, almond, cinnamon and beet root), Mother’s Little Helper (chamomile, peppermint, lemongrass), and organic cold 911 (juniper berries, eucalyptus, peppermint). Non herbal favorites are organic Cream of Earl Grey and Buddha’s Blend (white and green tea with white hibiscus and jasmine).
Then there are the offbeat flavors including Birthday Cake made with multi colored sprinkles and Hot Chocolate that features chocolate chips (at 5 calories a cup, beats the real hot chocolate).
They’re showcased in colorful tins from which you can purchase as little as you want. An ounce starts ranges from $2.49 to $14.79. Samplers are offered in a number of ways, including a festive Resolution tube with New Year’s resolutions and 16 teas .
Have loose tea at home you’d like to make into teabags? They sell the empty teabags in 2 versions, one made from biodegradable nylon and another made with biodegradable, chlorine-free, compostable manila hemp.
Or better yet – and a wonderful gift – is what they call Davids Starter Kit that includes 8 teas, tea bags and the perfect tea spoon for $26.
Another nifty gift for a teacher or boss is a tea mug with infuser that you can write on to personalize it. It comes with a marker for $23. Ice tea lovers will love a special plastic pitcher (BPA free) with an area for hot water and a tea infuser, and a separate plunger for the ice. There are also ice tea thermoses and all matter of tea accessories. One of my favorites was a gold plated tea spoon for the tea lover who has everything.
Unlike many tea stores that are decorated in muted tones and are often dark, Davids Tea thinks tea drinking should be fun. Its décor palette reflects that: bright turquoise walls, ice cream color tea bins, and lots of light.
And when you go, plan on having lunch at Luke’s Lobster right next store. Get the lobster roll that comes with a side salad or cole slaw and chips. The toughest thing will be not to have seconds!
