Besides becoming Miami’s go to blog writer, ( I loved Byblos too) I know you have spend much time in Spain.  We’re going on Monday – Northern Spain and Madrid – driving across.  Any recommendations? Shopping? Restaurants that are not in the top 50 worldwide?xd

Madrid: Best shopping area is the Barrio Salamanca, between Serrano street and Velasquez and Jorge Juan and Ortega and Gasset. It’s best just to walk up and down the streets and see what catches your eye. My fave shops– Uterque which is the upscale store of Zara — terrific for accessories that look expensive but aren’t; Bimbo y Lola; stores around Jorge Juan street in particular (art galleries there too); and do go to the Corte Ingles department stores on the Castellana (the major one) as it has all the top Spanish brands. For eating, classic favorite Paraguas; for seafood Combarro and O Pescador; new hot spots Amazonas and Quintin; be sure to go to a place to have roast lamb — there are several good ones; and several markets around town that have eat in restaurants like Mercado San Angel which is in Chueca, Madrid’s answer to Brooklyn. If you’re in the Salamanca area there’s a market in Lagasca that has a restaurant where you can have a delicious three course lunch for 10 euros (it’s hectic and not for lingering, but food is fresh and well prepared and you can’t beat the deal. Enjoy!
