One of the trips offered by the NSU Art Museum

By Josie Gulliksen and Yours Truly

Did you know that many of the leading South Florida Museums are offering curated art tours with access to exclusive collections, behind the scenes tours, and talks by art historians? They include domestic and international destinations ranging from Rome and Florence to Peru, Los Angeles, Asia, the Biennale and possibly even the Congo!  Most are offered to upper level members and donors. Here’s what coming up for later this year and early 2019. And if you plan to do your own art inspired trip, there’s a site I just discovered that features the best private art museums and foundations around the world.

Do’s and Don’ts of a Spray Tan

With all of this rain we’re having, getting a tan is a challenge. Plus, with ocean temperatures more comfortable for us locals, and with that, more beach days, thoughts turn to looking good in our bathing suits and a full body spray tan. Having seen too many people with the “orange” look, I talked to Fabiola Trujillo of Sobe Tan, one of the top tanning salons Miami and a celebrity favorite, for a list of everything you’d want to know about getting a great spray tan.

No Name Chinese Restaurant

By Eleanor Hoh. No Name Chinese was started by frustrated Chinese food lovers, Heath Porter and Craig DeWald, partners from Coral Gables’ Uvaggio Bar & Restaurant fame. Together with Colombian Executive Chef, Pablo Zitzmann and pastry chef and wife, Natalia Atuesta, they’ve made us proud. Anyone who has lived where there’s good Chinese food laments about Miami’s lack of it and I couldn’t agree more. No Name Chinese set out to turn that around and succeeded with flying colors.

Staycation FL Keys, What’s New

It’s a great time of year to go on a Staycation to the Florida Keys – much less traffic, off season hotel rates, and no problem getting a reservation at choice spots. This year it’s even better with everything from new hotels Key West including a luxury all inclusive, the Keys’ first; more excursions and attractions by land and sea; and places to grab a beer or mojito and enjoy the sunsets. And get this, a new Hemingway Literary Day Trip to Havana from Key West International Airport. Here’s the scoop:

Exciting New Fashion Designers

Thanks to a new friend I met at my recent reader event – Chuky – I got plugged into exciting new fashion designers and came up with some great discoveries. Must admit, I also did some damage to the pocketbook, an “occupational hazard” of being a blogger. The finds – three Latin American designers — are in the emerging Little River area which is a growing hub for creatives and art galleries. You can find some neat gift items for Mother’s Day as well.

New Hot Spot: Chotto Matte

If I were to give the formula for a successful restaurant in Miami I’d say good or very good food, a party atmosphere (or if not party, at least very “buzzy”), and attractive décor. Of course, a must is professional management, which is usually a restaurant group. Witness the staying power – no small thing in this town – of Baoli, Bagatelle, Zuma, and then there’s the relatively new La Petite Maison. Now there’s a new addition to the list from London that promises to be a serious hot spot – Chotto Matte at 1661 Lenox Avenue. Chotto Matte is high power – the management and culinary team, the eye popping décor, and the elaborate menu offerings.
