Fashion Spotting: Miami Swim Week 2017

Australian designer Camilla is hot, hot, hot, sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Intermix among others. Besides clothing now they’re doing accessories and home decor.

Miami Swim Week 2017 closes today and it was bigger and better than ever with runway shows, exhibits and parties galore. What may surprise you is that this is the most prominent swim week in the US. Events were centered in Miami Beach, at the Convention Center, hotels, and in tents in Collins Park, but satellite parties and fashion shows were also held in other spots around town, from the Design District to Brickell City Center. Not only were there bathing suits and beach wear for men and women, but beauty products (tanning lotions, suntan creams, bikini wax), accessories, gift items,  and even beverage (e.g. passion fruit liqueur from the Dominican Republic, Rose wine, a soft drink in a can that lights up and flashes). Designers from Bali and Copenhagen to Brazil, Mustique and Latin America were represented. Here’s a photo gallery of some of my favorite pieces. Note that the fashions are the Spring 2018 collections so will be in the shops late this year. Read Full Post & Comments »

One of the highlights of Miami Swim Week 2017, the fashion event of the year in Miami,  was McDonald’s Couture. A South Florida McDonald’s franchisee  challenged fashion students from Miami International University of Art and Design to create an original signature crafted swim/resort wear collection designed entirely out of McDonald’s food packaging. From Happy Meal haute couture to French fry box cover ups and hamburger wrapper hoodies, the unique McDCouture Collection for both men and women was incredibly creative, original, and a total WOW. Here’s a photo gallery of just some of the twenty creations. And, by the way, stay tuned this week for fashion spotting at Swim Week. Read Full Post & Comments »

Marvelous Monday

Most people would agree (especially those of you who work) that Friday is Fabulous, but Monday? Here’s a way to make it marvelous as I discovered last Monday. It’s Motown Mondays at Sweet Liberty, a celebration of the great tunes of the Platters, Four Seasons,  The Temptations, and many more, with a good DJ and dancing. The music celebration is part of a nationwide club of DJs, producers, musicians and music enthusiasts with a passion for soul music and dancing that produce weekly events across the world, from San Francisco and New York to Austin, Honolulu and more. Sweet Liberty was named the best bar and best happy hour in SoBe by New Times in 2016 and the one of the best bars in America by Playboy.  Read Full Post & Comments »

Lima: Neighborhood Find

Ceviche with choclos and roasted corn

My “go to” place for a very casual, low cal, quality,  inexpensive bite in Brickell  midweek has been Obba Sushi. But I’ve been aching for someplace new, and not Japanese. To the rescue, my new neighborhood find, Lima, located within the Atton Brickell Miami Hotel, a hotel group from Chile. As you’d guess, the food is Peruvian .The Chileans, as the Peruvians, know their seafood, and it shows. Plus, prices are fair and downright cheap for the three hour happy hour, and there’s a new weekly Saturday Session at their rooftop pool and lounge  from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., an option to South Beach. Tatel from Enrique Iglesias and Rafael Nadal

Earlier this year, Tatel Miami was listed in my “hot” list of restaurants to watch for the opening. With celebrity owners including music superstar Enrique Iglesias and Spain’s tennis legend Rafael Nadal and NBA champion Pau Gasol, plus a successful mother restaurant in Madrid, it was on my “to do” list. In March Tatel opened in the Ritz Carlton South Beach, and I was finally able to make a visit.  It turned out to be different from what I expected. Read Full Post & Comments »
