Month: July 2017

Chiara De Luca, an actress and film producer who lived in Paris, got hooked on a favorite workout activity of the French -- l’aquabiking. It seems aqua cycling is all the rage in France and in Italy, which doesn't seem far fetched considering the culture of cycling in Europe. So she came to Miami and opened ElementAqua, a studio in Little River devoted exclusively to aquatic fitness with a focus on aquacycling. The appeal of water exercise is it builds endurance as a cardio experience, but as the water supports the body weight, it reduces stress on joints. Burns lots of calories too. And then there's aquazen for mind and body.
Miami Spa Month 2017 is already in full swing, but lucky for locals, we’re in that wonderful month of the year (August!) where Miami Spice and Miami Spa Month overlap. From now through August 31, massages, facials, full-body treatments and more at Miami’s most high-end spas start at just $109. And after you’re fully pampered, you can round it out with a $39, three-course Miami Spice dinner at one of your favorite Magic City restaurants. (We recommend our top picks, here.) And stay tuned for the best of the best of Miami Spice in an upcoming post.
Miami Swim Week 2017 closes today and it was bigger and better than ever with runway shows, exhibits and parties galore. What may surprise you is that this is the most prominent swim week in the US. Events were centered in Miami Beach, at the Convention Center and in tents in Collins Park, but satellite parties and fashion shows were also held in other spots around town, from the Design District to Brickell City Center. Not only were there bathing suits and beach wear for men and women, but beauty products (tanning lotions, suntan creams, bikini wax), accessories, gift items, and even beverage (e.g. passion fruit liqueur from the Dominican Republic, Rose wine, a soft drink in a can that lights up). Designers from Bali and Copenhagen to Brazil, Mustique and Latin America were represented. Here's a photo gallery of some of my favorite pieces. Note that the fashions are the Spring 2018 collections so will be in the shops late this year.
One of the highlights of Miami Swim Week 2017, the fashion event of the year in Miami, was McDonald's Couture. A South Florida McDonald’s franchisee challenged fashion students from Miami International University of Art and Design to create an original signature crafted swim/resort wear collection designed entirely out of McDonald’s food packaging. From Happy Meal haute couture to French fry box cover ups and hamburger wrapper hoodies, the unique McDCouture Collection for both men and women was incredibly creative, original, and a total WOW.

Lots of news this month on the eating front, from new eatery openings and a notable closing, to food products to put on your list, and a terrific restaurant find thanks to a reader tip.
Luxury barbershops Miami, the second in a two part series. Grooming, day spas, the works, and some provide services for women as well. For Part 1, click here.
Let’s be honest, ladies: when it comes to spa treatments, the majority of us book them for ourselves and not the men in our lives. (Cue Miami Spa Month, every woman’s favorite time of the year in South Florida!) Recognizing that trend, a slew of day spas, grooming and barber shops Miami have opened specifically with men in mind. Looking for somewhere to treat the gentlemen in your life to some A-list pampering? Checkout the first part of a two part series on barber shops Miami —some of them even have treatments for the ladies, too.
Most people would agree (especially those of you who work) that Friday is Fabulous, but Monday? Here’s a way to make it marvelous as I discovered last Monday. It’s Motown Mondays at Sweet Liberty, a celebration of the great tunes of the Platters, Four Seasons, The Temptations, and many more, with a good DJ and dancing. The music celebration is part of a nationwide club of DJs, producers, musicians and music enthusiasts with a passion for soul music and dancing that produce weekly events across the world, from San Francisco and New York to Austin, Honolulu and more. Sweet Liberty was named the best bar and best happy hour in SoBe by New Times in 2016 and the one of the best bars in America by Playboy.
