How many times do we get to see art by a Saudi Arabian artist, and a woman no less, in Miami, even at Art Basel? Interestingly enough, the invitation to the opening of “I Am Here”, the exhibition of photography, installation and mixed media by Manal AlDowayan came on the heels of my having read a fascinating article about the new Saudi Arabian Vogue editor of Vogue Arabia.
When I happened upon the boutique of Turkish-Armenian designer Sevan Bicacki in the Design District and beheld his jewels, displayed as they would be (and deserve to be) in a museum, I thought I was gazing upon a display in Istanbul's Topkapi Palace. Internationally celebrated fine jewelry artist Sevan Biçaçki has opened his first boutique in the Americas in a highly distinctive decor featuring blue and white painted Ottoman domes.
